1939 1940 New York World's Fair Plate Souvenir Cake Plate
This is a beautiful plate from the 1939 New York World's Fair dated 1940, the second and final year of the fair. This beautiful cake plate is gold and deep burgundy edged with a stunning art deco graphic in the center. Marked The Cronin China Co. Minerva, Ohio. National Brotherhood of Operative Potters Union Label Authorized AF of L.
The plate is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. It retains its original shine. The plate does have tiny surface scratches and crazing and a few dark spots which appear to be manufacturing flaws. The plate measures 10 3/4" from handle to handle. The colors are still vibrant and overall this is a great display piece.
The fair was held in 1939-1940 in what is now Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, NY. Potters from around the country participated in the fair and produced lovely souvenirs. This is a lovely example.
