A sublime pair of rare antique bookends inspired by the painting, The Storm, by Pierre-Auguste Cot (French, Bdarieux 18371883 Paris). The beaux arts or art nouveau style of a couple caught in the storm and using her skirt as an umbrella is a classic. The number "504" is stamped on the bottom back of each bookend. The interior of each bookend has an art nouveau plant design in a silver tone metal. The bookends are unmarked and rare, I could not find an example to determine manufacturer. The casting is superb, the attention to detail is remarkable.

The antique bronze bookends each measure approximately 8" high x 5" wide x 4" deep. Excellent age appropriate condition with a wonderful patina. Outstanding bookends.
