A rare, first American edition of the book, The Light of Asia; or, the Great Renunciation. Being the Life and Teaching of Gautama, Prince of India and Founder of Buddhism. The book, by Edwin Arnold, M.A.; published by Roberts Brothers, Boston, 1880. The narrative poem was read by Mahatma Ghandi and is said to have inspired him to study Hinduism. The book is in antique condition with an ink inscription, pencil writings on the back page, soiled and worn covers and a torn spine. A rare collectible book, measuring approximately 7" x 5" x 7/8".
