A vintage Howard Johnson's pie plate or salad plate. This vitrified china restaurantware plate features the Howard Johnson's trademarked logo, Simple Simon and the Pieman. The dish in in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks; with surface scratching. Nice scalloped edge and dark red graphic on creamy white. The dish measures approximately 9" in diameter. Marked Buffalo China, 10-64, Made in the U.S.A.

Howard Johnson's restaurants started in Quincy, Massachusetts. At one time it was the largest restaurant chain in the USA. Best known for their "28" flavors of ice cream, they also sold meals and in some locations, cocktails. We had one in my town growing up, it was a big treat to stop for an ice cream after shopping. The color palette of the chain, teal and orange was unmistakeable and the Simple Simon and the Pieman logo was placed all over, including the weathervane!

For as popular as this chain was for so long, a surprising few pieces of china remain. I'm a fortunate enough to have quite a few obtained from a private collector. A nice Midcentury Americana find.
